I think Gus and Brooks are about an even wash for me. The longer I think about it, the more I want to say Bollinger.

1.Because of his time in the system, and he has been just as productive or even more than other QB's in his situation in the past. A.K.A. Kelly Holcombe

2.There is no guarantee Frerotte will be any improvement at all over Brooks. Frerotte floundered last season with the Rams who were projected in the pre-season as a possible NFC rep in the S.B.


I really didn't expect to have this stance on this issue. "Brooks over Frerotte"

I'll just have to wait and see what happens in pre-season until I draw my final conclusion. But there is something inside me rooting for Bollinger in this battle. And I have been a very heavy critique of him prior to last season. But he showed me something last year. And I think it should be his job to lose.

Booty could get a shot, but I think Brooks or Gus would be the most realistic choices.

A, and it's not even close. I can't believe you even want Brooks on the roster.

I think Gus will get the number two spot and Bollinger will get cut. They want someone that can mentor T-Jack and JDB. I agree that Brooks is probably better in this system than Gus, but I just don't see them cutting Gus.

Do you think Frerotte was brought in to play the same role as he did in 2004, helping Daunte Culpepper develop?  I really like Gus Frerotte.  He defines backup qb for me, he does what he really should do as a backup, be the 'on-field' coordinator, mentor and tutor to the guy running the show.  Talk about a true professional.  I hope he does for Tarvaris this year what he did for Daunte that year.

However..One thing we're overlooking is that Booty is a smart QB. Which honestly, is what we really need. So I wouldn't be surprised if, depending on how preseason etc works out, Booty ends up number 2.
That was my main complaint with Jackson last season, he made too many stupid, stupid mistakes. I dont think Booty would.

I agree with you on this BB has more knowledge of the system and the plays.......and he is younger. Gus may be a great guy but we dont need that and we dont need a MENTOR for a QB.......the coach's Teach......I do not want a QB who has always been a backup for good reason telling the QB anything other than what play has been called.
Gus was bad last year due to his age and the fact he has never really been good. Now factor in that these coach's have yet to prove they can pick good QB talent..... and that fact is why we have the ? at that position still.

I'm pretty confident that when the Vikings signed Gus they had answered the question to their dilemma!  Gus should get the nod but then again nothing is a certain and especially without them going through TC before determining if their decision was the correct one!

Coach Chili has mis-managed this area of the team going on 3 years now and it really sucks when you look at the options we face, TJack, Frerotte, Bollinger, & Booty!  Why does a so called QB guru fail so miserably at honing the one part of the team he is supposed to excel at?

I pray to GOD we never see any of the backups on the field during the regular season, but believe what you want, you can almost set your watch to it happening!  WE ARE SO SCREWED!

Gus and its not even close. 

The Vikes drafted Booty and they traded up to do it.  He will be the #3 this year which thankfully means Brooks will be kicked to the curb.

The fact that they went and signed Gus leads me to believe the organization considered him a better option than Bollinger. And there initial plan was to go:

1. TJack
2. Gus
3. Bollinger

However, once JDB fell in the draft they had to re-structure their position on QB's. Thus, leaving:

1. Tjack
2. Gus
3. JDB

Personally, I much prefer scenerio 2.

I agree.....I don't think it has anything at all to do with who the better QB is on the field. Gus is a proven teacher/mentor and he was brought here to help develop Jackson and Booty.....but in a pench can also play just as well if not better than Bollinger as a backup.

I don't see any roll for Bollinger on the team this year. He had his shot, and couldn't deliver...good luck to him somewhere else.
