A package of Carney to Memphis for.....

There has been some discussion out in the internet land that Memphis was trying to grab Carney before we got to him and before i get tourched for suggesting this, hear me out. What if we were to approach Memphis again with a package of either McCants/Brewer/ Carney, Craig Smith and a 1 or 2 picks (of these 3-4 picks we've compiled) for O.J.Mayo and possibly Lowery.  I know it may seem like i'm still hung over from the draft night trade, but offering a few of these picks for two players (one of which has the potential to be a superstar) seems like a good move for both teams, Memphis thins out the guard position and continues to build for the future (and possibly sale of the team)  Minnesota gets a back up PG, a defined core of young players to market/develop for 2-3 years, and has a chance to expidite the rebuilding process.  What better way to sell hope then with a group of young players,  I want to be more interested in the rebuilding process and to do that we still need a "wild card" superstar-esc player to put on this team to actually feel like we have a real chance at improving on our rebuilding efforts.

again, i'm probally hung over from the draft night, but really do we need all of these top 10/top 15 protected picks?  wouldn't we be better off getting a couple of young rookies from one class, try to develop them and then build that way vs. the "next season" approach?  maybe i guess that's why it's called rebuiilding....

    1) Don't trade Brewer
    2) Memphis won't move Mayo, they need to draw fans, what part of drawing fans does the package you have from us draw fans for them?
    3) His name is Kyle Lowry... solid point guard, I like him... not sure what it would take to get him.. I don't think you can package two SG's in McCants and Carney though.

Not with the roster Memphis has- however Carney would be enticing for them since he played for U of Memphis and would help the fan base a bit.

my apologies for the miss-spell, but i was looking at the Carney angle for Memphis to draw in fans and then the "potential" that the draft picks would have.  I mean we are slated to have 4 picks now in the next couple of years plus our  own (barring the Cassell/clippers deal goes through).  I say give Memphis some of that "potential", while we develop a team to compete in 2-3 years.

I like the way u think. I would basicly trade away any player and all our future 1st rounders we are getting to get mayo back on our team. We drafted mayo and i want mayo on our team. I know its unlikely but we've always got to have hope...

^ you would trade Al Jefferson straight up for Mayo?

Re: A package of Carney to Memphis for.....

It's a completely ridiculous concept but for the hell of it:

Change in Team Outlook: 0.0 ppg, 0.0 rpg, and 0.0 apg.

    Incoming Players
    Kyle Lowry
    6-0 PG from Villanova
No games yet played in 2007/08
    O.J. Mayo
    0-0 SG from Southern California
No games yet played in 2007/08
    Outgoing Players
    Rashad McCants
    6-4 SG from North Carolina
No games yet played in 2007/08
    Corey Brewer
    6-8 SF from Florida
No games yet played in 2007/08
Plus Memphis gets Miami's, Boston's, and Philly's 1st round draft picks.

Salary Cap wise I'm pretty sure the trade works out, but the Grizzlies cannot trade O.J. Mayo until 30 days after signing him to his rookie contract. (August 8) This trade is insane and will in no way ever happen. However, it isn't a terrible trade for Memphis, I guess it all hedges on the perceived value of Rashad McCants, and his likelyhood to produce and mature into a well-rounded player. (Fat Chance)

Re: A package of Carney to Memphis for.....

I'm guessing Memphis would rather have Carney then Mccants, but the idea of dumping brewer and Carney, isn't a bad one.  i mean Brewer has a some potential, but if his shooting and weight issues don't improve soon, he'll be a bust.

The idea of getting Mayo and Love is what excites me about the idea,  then we'd have our players and we could develop them....instead, we'll sift through another season of hoping that either Mccants, Foye or Brewer turn into that legit All star....a stretch at best and waiting for next year's draft day trade.

No, it actually seems as if your still drunk.

Tell me again, why Memphis would do this?

    Ain't nothing to talk about.

Re: A package of Carney to Memphis for.....

Carney is not going anywhere.  McHale said in his press conference that Carney was the key to the trade (yeah I know, that's what he said about Banks).  Carney's ability to run the court is a great match for Love's outlet passing ability.

Re: A package of Carney to Memphis for.....

Carney being the "key to the trade" means that we wanted him for something (not necessarily to play on our team).  Maybe so we could trade with a team that wasn't interested in just our trade exemption cash.

Of course Mac is going to talk about all of the good things he would bring to our team.. otherwise, what would you tell the media?  "We probably aren't going to keep him, so I won't even discuss his skills" ?

he could easily still be a trade asset
