Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clay Rubes???
Any of you compete in any leagues around the metro area? If so where do you shoot and what do you shoot?
Myself - I am a captain of a Sporting Clays Team at Metro Gun Club and I am proud to say that I am league high gun through 6 weeks!!!
Anyone else?

Re: Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clay Rubes???
I shoot in two Trap leagues, one at Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake and the other is at the Buffalo Gun Club. This is my first year in ATA and I've been to two events so far and plan on making St. Cloud my third this weekend. Nascar, do you reload or do you buy your shells?

Re: Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clay Rubes???
Sweet! I have never shot at that club - The clubhouse there looks super nice!! I like Metro since they have 4 Sporting clay fields and they have the 75' Duck Tower - My personal favorite!!
As much as I would like to reload so I could experiment, I just don't have time to sit down and crank them out. However with my basement remodel coming to an end I am starting to think about doing that.
How about you?

Re: Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clay Rubes???
Alot of the guys on the Mpls. team have shot up at Metro but I have yet to shoot up there yet.
I reload for two reasons it's cheaper and I get to control things more. I have a little reloadeing room under the stairs in our house and it really doesn't take up that much time. I can load a flat in 45 minutes to an hour. I know other guys that do it faster.

Metro Gun Club is up in Blaine if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if Metro's duck tower works or even if they have on. I know the duck tower at MPLS is not in use.
Just kep a couple of things in mind when it comes to trapshooting,
1. It's all about doing the same things exactly the same eveytime, meaning how you mount the gun, your stance ect. ect.
2. Stay under the bird, when your sights cover the bird you've already lost it.
3. Don't worry about breaking the bird as soon as it leaves the house, you pellets will break the bird even if it's 2 inches above the ground. Too many people rush their shots, relax, that shotshell will catch up to the bird!
4. Have fun and be safe. This is a hobby, and it's for fun right?

Re: Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clay Rubes???
How can a person like myself find a league to join and how much does this cost? It sounds like a lot of fun and I have always thought of signing up for some type of competition. Where can I find more info or anyone willing to help out. Thanks.

Minneapolis Gun Club is probably your best bet for you in Shakopee, Horse and Hunt is spendy Mpls. is not cheap but affordable for a beginner. Pm me if you are serious about joining a league.

GG - The duck tower at Metro is in full use - Best way to get ready for the duck/goose season!! Back to the league talk - My team is in first by 2 points with 2 weeks left. We should fair pretty well since the last teams we face have been shotty at best (Pun intended). Personally I am having the best season ever. I am 4 birds out of first place, this is out of 200+ shooters! I have my two best stations left for the last 2 weeks so I am ready to go!! How about you?

Well....I lost the league high gun by 3 clays!!! I was pretty bummed last night - I shot like crap.... but the most important thing is that our team won the whole season!!! I am really proud of all my guys! they shot really well this season!!!......... If you are at all interested our team name is ------ The Spent Wads!
Tips you say??? it is hard to give tips over this medium.... but if I were to give one and one only I would say don't think about it to much, feel the shot. IMHO the worst thing you can do is over think the shot - be calm and feel were the bird is going to be when you pull the trigger. I am always up for going out and shooting..!! Maybe a Rube shooting day!?

Re: Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clay Rubes???
Nascar Guy- my team finished in second place this year. Overall I had my best season, with a per round average of 23.35. I made it into the top 15 shooters in the league this year. Congrats on your season!! I'm off to Horse and Hunt for some sporties on Saturday, my Union is having it's annual shotgun tune up event there. Should be fun. I'm looking forward to pheasent season this year. I did alot of work down in the Windom area this last spring and summer and the birds are everywhere! Should be a great season.
Hey is it true that Metro raised it rates way up? I heard a rumor that rates had gone up to $8 per round if you are a member, $11 if you are not and $14 for leagues no matter if you are a member or not. Tell me it ain't so.
