Looking to buy a used motorhome, class c, small (23-24 feet)
Used. Circa 1984.

Anyone have any do's or don'ts you could share?

Is it even worth it to get something that old? Just want it for relatively short family camping excursions.

Watch for water stains on the ceiling, and a musty smell. 1 of the biggest problems with older RVs is a leaking, rotting ceiling. They can be re-sealed, but if it's been going on too long there may be structural damage.

Do you know anything about the mechanics? If it smells like gas, is that a big no no?

Depends on where the smell is coming from. If it's coming from the engine compartment chances are it's something that can be fixed "relatively" easily. If its from the tank leaking that could be a big problem.
