I will be keeping track of the former Timberwolf that was sold for cash AND 2 2ND ROUND PICKS to Miami in this thread.

Word out of Miami is that Riley thinks so highly of Chalmers that he could start for the Heat this year.

    Summer League Game #1:
    11 points, 6 assists, 4 steals, 1 turnover.

I know it's only Summer League but Chalmers outplayed the Rose.  Wow.

Re: ***Official Mario Chalmers Watch Thread***

Rose was the featured backcourt attraction in the Miami-Chicago game, but it was Miami's Mario Chalmers who won the point guard matchup.

Chalmers, who hit the game-tying 3-pointer to force overtime in Kansas' national championship victory against Memphis, surprisingly dropped to the 34th pick in the draft after being projected by some as a mid-first-round selection. After scoring 11 points, tallying six assists, grabbing four steals and giving Rose fits with his ball-hawking defense, he admitted that he's playing with something to prove this week.

"I'm definitely trying to use that for motivation to push myself, but at the same time that's not something that I'm thinking about," Chalmers said of plummeting on draft night. "I'm just trying to show the Heat that I can run a team from the point guard position and earn a spot."

"We picked him [Mayo] for us. This means we're keeping him."

    - Fred "Two-faced" Hoiberg just hours before trading Mayo to Memphis.

Jesus, why is everybody in Rube Chat so petty? I mean, I loved the Chalmers pick and wanted them to hold onto him, but at least wait until he does anything of note apart from playing well in a summer league before gloating over it. Damn.

If you say so. I'm not the one touting an 11-point performance by a second-round draft pick as the second coming of John Stockton as others seem to be doing.

Probably worse then the Foye/Roy debacle.  It just proves that they don't really have a plan and kinda tinker with this, trade that, with no vision.

You wont hate it a couple of years from now as you will learn that second round trades are rarely significant. But it gives some of the rubes something to whine about.

Hey, even Kevin Mchale admitted it was a mistake.

McHale may or may not have admitted it was a mistake, I dont know.  But I bet he was not all broken up about it, because it was a god dam small mistake. I did not hear what he said, but the chances are he would have drafted someone else if the Mayo trade had been completed earlier.

Keep in mind it's Summer League... where Randy Foye proved he was better than Brandon Roy. But still, I think Chalmers could at least be Jamaal Tinsley.

Re: ***Official Mario Chalmers Watch Thread***

    tinsley is selfish and immature

chalmers is a classy team player

tinsley is better at creating, chalmers is better playing off of a different focal point

chalmers is much better defensively and has a comparable jump shot

overall, I'd say the talent level would probably be fairly close in the end, but chalmers is the kind you want on your team if you plan on winning, where as tinsley will put up stats on a bad team his whole career.

that's the beauty of the group that bill self put together at kansas this last year.  They're all at least decent defenders (with a couple outstanding defenders, including chalmers), they're all unselfish, all of them can take and make shots when given the chance, and they're all smart players

I'm really trying hard not to dwell on this trade, but when a first round talent (miami reportedly had him at #12 on their big board) with fantastic pedigree and skill sets falls to you, you give him away almost for free, then desperately start searching for a player that fills exactly the role that chalmers does, it's hard to not be frustrated.

by the all star break, I guarantee that chalmers will be the starting point in miami.  it's the perfect system for him too, bringing the ball up and stretching the defense, playing tough defense and letting wade and beasley dominate the ball.  I'm  happy that he's at least in a good situation, since he is one of my favorite players, but I'm very frustrated that he's not a wolf.

Chalmers is a selfless classy team player that does every little thing to win, including defense, getting his teammates involved, and hitting down open shots.

But then again, McHale and company wouldn't know anything about a G that does all those little things.

Mario Chalmers again looked great for the Heat; one Heat source commented that maybe they have found their point guard of the future. HoopsHype.com

On a side note, guard Mario Chalmers was pretty darn good once again. He finished with 19 points (5-for-10 shooting), nine assists, three steals, six fouls and three turnovers. Again, it’s way too early to draw conclusions about Beasley or Chalmers, but Chalmers is very impressive. Palm Beach Post

Before Mario Chalmers is declared the biggest mistake in history, look back at last years summer leagues and note how Marco Belinelli and Von Wafer were dominant. It doesn't mean ANYTHING.

If he ends up being a "great player", there will be some 15+ NBA teams who will look even dumber than we did (for not even CONSIDERING the guy in the #15-#30 draft slots).

Its not Foye vs. Roy.  Those were two players that were of similar caliber and who were both considered "lottery" players.  We are talking about a guy (Chalmers) that was passed over by half of the league (when he could have reasonably been taken anywhere after the 13th pick or so).  How does that make us the failure for trading him?  If we would have taken DeAndre Jordan and some other team got Chalmers later, you wouldn't be bitching as much about the Wolves "missing out".

People who gripe about this are the same people who feel an extra sting just because "we had him". Doesn't change the fact that other teams could have "had him"...MANY other teams.

If anything, this will be remembered because Miami was lucky enough to have him fall that far for us to draft him.. for them.

Lets also remember that we made the "deal" with Miami BEFORE....BEFORE! the deal happened with Memphis.  At that point, why would we have wanted to take/keep a 6th guard for our lineup?????
