After remaining steadfast in declaring Jackson the starter last year, I don't think it would be good to make him ride the bench for Favre.  If he doesn't mind backing Jackson up, I wouldn't have a problem with Favre in purple.  Or if Jackson got injured; I'd love to get Favre in to play.

That said, the idea of Favre leading the Vikes to the promised land makes me cackle with glee, for the sole reason that it would be a huge slap in the face to cheeseheads.  The fact that so may packerbackers have already said that the idea of Favre as a Viking makes them want to throw up would make it all the more sweet if it happened.

This is why I love purple chat.

    Wow

    Your WOW is well placed.

In the last 4 years Favre has over 16000 yards, on over 1400 completions or around 350 completions for 4000 a season.  23 completions for 250 yards a game average.

Last year, Jackson couldn't throw for 2000 yards and he was sacked more than Favre.  4% of Jackson's throws were intercepted while only 2.8% of Favre's were. Jackson attempted less than 55% of the passes Favre did but both lost 3 fumbles.

Last year Jackson got you 14 completions a game for just under 160 yards.

Some day Tavaris may get his consecutive start streak into double digits but Favre always has the guts to show up.

It really is a question of how much does Favre cost and if the Vikings are willing to pay.

He is definitely worth a first round pick sent to the Packers or more depending on how long he plays.

Face it Tavaris is the weak link of the team and upgrading would make the Vikings an awesome team.

    Back up Jackson indeed.

First round pick for Favre? No thanks... I wouldn't give up a first rounder for most players in the league that you know are not going to play much longer...

Wow.  I didn't even catch that...  A first round pick for a guy that will turn 39 during the season and gets paid $10 million a year?  I got a bridge and some ocean front property for ya BW.

    Wow

It is nice having a veteran QB as a backup for Jackson, but we already have Gus.  I don't know if farvey could beat him out.  Big Grin

He would be fourth on the depth charts.  Don't forget Booty.

Re: King also says Favre to MN

Ok, I think I will wade back into this one.  First, after reading all of the posts so far, I am still unmoved, NO Favre!!! EVER!!!

    Why not you ask?

    1. Playoff records?  Sure he won the big one, once.  However, beyond all of his other great stats, does anyone else realize that he is tied for first in NFL history in most career playoff interceptions thrown or that he is also tied for first in most playoffs losses as a starting quarterback?  Sure he went to two superbowls, won one of them (congrats on that!) but he also lost as a starting quarterback in the playoffs ten times.  Yes, you can argue that at least he got his team there, but he hasn't been to the super bowl since 1997 and not proven he can get a team back to one since then.  Stats courtesy of: http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_career_achievements_by_Brett_Favre

    2. Next, I think that we all agree that the Vikings are on the right track.  I mean, who won't admit that the fan base is as pumped for a season as it has been in years, and for good reason.  Now, let's pretend (ala fantasy land) that Favre does, by some strange alignment of the planets, become a Viking.  Seriously, can you imagine the season long media circus?  You think we have heard about Favre in other years?  OMG, it would be all Favre, all the time!  And.......few would give credit to what our team, front office and coaches might or might not have done.  If we win the Super Bowl, it would only be because BRETT was here!  It would be the story of the season.  And the hype going into game one in Lambuea would be insane.  How does this translate into an otherwise fairly stable and coordinated clubhouse?  Are the current Vikings ready for that level of pressure and distraction?  Not sure all of that promises us a Super Bowl win.

    3. Lastly?  It just ain't right!  Somethings should never be.  I say let him go to Carolina Panthers and then (since were are talking in the realm of fantasy anyway) we intercept him on their last offensive play in the NFC Championship game and add to his interception and playoff loss totals so he can have both records free and clear without sharing them with anyone else.  Now thats how I would like to see the Vikings help him out if he foregoes retirement!

    Stevesas,

The Vikings went to their Super Bowls when Nixon and Ford were President.

The Vikings seemed to have "upped the ante" this off season getting big name free agents for a Super Bowl run.

The Vikings need a big time QB.

Getting to the Super Bowl isn't easy.  They have to go for it and take advantage of the opportunity.  Before the DT's, Sharper, and Birk get too old they have to go for it now.

The Vikings spent first round picks on James, Williamson, Underwood and a lot of other non-achievers.  A couple of draft picks for Favre is a good investment for a Super Bowl appearance.

This opinion would be based on.... Because he did so good for the Peckers last season in the playoffs?

Because in 17 seasons he was only able to win 1 ring. "And he wasn't even the primary reason they won it as you would like to believe. Holmgren was the only coach that could ever tame that horses ass named  Bert."

And if it wasn't for that 1 ring, The Packers would be just as pathetic with their last SB appearance being approx 30 years prior also. So please take you B.S. and kindly gfy.

I highly doubt that the packer faithful would even consider it a viking super bowl victory or would even recognize it as a viking win if Farve led us to the title.  I'm sure in some way they would consider it a packer super bowl win.

For this reason alone I'd like the vikes to try and do it on their own.

I meant to quote Mo's post which was really good.

If I can add some things:

I was glad that Favre and the Packers lost the 1997 Superbowl.  Remember how arrogant he was in mocking Elway and how he walked after years and years of battle while Favre was still a young little bitch?  Ironically, Elway ended up with two rings in a row and Favre never made it back after the Broncos beat them.  Imagine what an arrogant pr_ck Favre wouldve been if he won two or three!!!  The curse of Elway lives on.

The Patriots werent that good.  They had Bledsoe and good offense but really didnt put up much of a defensive fight.  Still the patriots were in the game.  Favre had a decent game but he gets far more credit than he should.  The Packers brought a #1 ranked defense and offense to the game.   The defense and special teams came up huge for them.

Its official. Viking fans are the dumbest S. o. B's ever. They want Tarvaris Jackson to start over a living legend. We are a QB away from a Super Bowl and we dont want to get one of the best. Morons.

Re: King also says Favre to MN

I would be extremely disappointed if Favre ever puts on a purple uniform and I think there is a 99.999999 % chance it will never happen, but here is why it wont work.
    1) When does a player at the end of his career ever go to another team when he played (almost) his entire career with one tema and lead them to a championship?  I am sure there is someone, but who comes to my mind are guys like Jordan with Washington, Montana with KC, Emmit Smith with Arizona,.

    2) Could Favre take any criticism.  Every Packer fan I know (there are way too many) gives him an absolute free pass on everything.  There is nothing like it outside of NASCAR.  His first 4 pick game or stupid underhanded pass or whatever would get Viking fans in an uproar.  We would be clammoring for a guy just not to make mistakes with AP, Chester, the Defense etc.

    3) Peter King was right in that the Pakers could never really allow him to play for the Vikings. Ultimately if Favre comes back, they get to decide who he plays for.  The Pakers would trade him to the Vikings.

    4) I would love to see him in Chicago with their weak OL, running game, and no recievers.  He would quit by week 4.

Re: King also says Favre to MN

Peter King is a reputable source.

They spent money on Allen, Berrian, Shinaco, and Wade.

This would only cost draft picks.

Some of you forget how smooth he looked in that 34-0 game.

If defenses try to stop the pass you run Adrian, stack the box and Favre will kill them.  It would be an awsome offense.

How many people remember the names of Packer receivers over the years??  Favre made the mediocre WR's look good.

Jackson throws INT's 43% more than Favre.  You just can't go into the playoffs with Jackson.

Peter King is right.  The problem is - can the front office get the Packers to deal??

They got the trade done with them on draft day to get Booty.

Yeah he lost me there too.  Pete King had the Vikes in the SB against the Pats in the Ticey years.  Pete King might not have the firmest grasp on reality.

HOWEVER... He does tell a fine tale.  What a story it would be for legendary QB Farve, who was FORCED to retire, to go to the hated rival and lead them to victory in the season series, and the Super Bowl.  I don't care for Farve's drama, and I don't care for the media's view of him "Just being a little kid out there playing in the school yard", BUT... He'd be good here with the Vike's WRs, and AP behind him.  I mean he'd be really good.  Get the best record and it's Dome Field advantage so no hanky over the nose bit this year.  As a FA its a no brainer if he wants to play here.  I don't care about the bitchy little fans who can't see this makes the team SO much better.  They'd get over it with some wins.  In a trade, I'd do it for a second rounder, but not a first.  He is 39 afterall.

Re: King also says Favre to MN

Most of you guys crack me up. Farve is 40 years old. Your talking about him like he is 24-25. *** he's not even 35 for gods sake. Their is no tread left on the tire. He has 0 mobility. Sure he can still throw the ball, but to which team?

If the Cheeseheads can get anything better then a 7th rounder for him I would be shocked.

    Last year T-Jack threw 12 Int's, Bart threw 15.

    YOU DON"T READ BEFORE POSTING!!

Mobility!! Who got sacked more?  Jackson was sacked more than Favre last year and Jackson has the Viking O-line in front of him!!   Favre dropped back 82% more times and got sacked 21% less than Jackson.

    Broken_Wind:

In the last 4 years Favre has over 16000 yards, on over 1400 completions or around 350 completions for 4000 a season.  23 completions for 250 yards a game average.

[How can you say no tread left??]

    1)  So if Favre has "0 mobility" PPurple Pride, how is it that with 82% more dropbacks he was sacked less than Jackson??

    2)  Are you saying the Packer O-line is better?

    3)  Are you suggesting that if Favre played behind the Viking O-line he might get injured like 2/3 of the Viking QB's last year??

    4)  How do you explain Jackson's higher interception rate??

    5)  "No tread left" yet he threw for 4155 yards (more than double Jackson's yards) .  Favre had the fewest attempts last year of his last 4 years.

    6)  Favre's QB rating last year was 95.7 against a tougher schedule.  Jackson's was 70.8.    Where do you get zero mobility and no tread left comments??

Why say stupid things you know are not true PPurple Pride??

Favre is just what the Vikings need!!

We do not need a 40 year old washed up Q.B. who pulled a rabbit out of his hat and had a dream season last year. And he still lost the playoff game for you guys.

At home with a chance to go to the SuperBowl and he showed his age. The old timer blew the game and the season for your beloved Cheesheads. You are so blind.

How many yards rushing did he have last year?

12 yards, thats it! Wow what great mobility!

Sadly. I would take him if he chose to come here.

If it leads us to our 1st superbowl ring, I could care less. Like it KG played for Detroit or New York instead of Minnesota...and KG either was traded to Boston or signed with them, do you think Boston fans would have a hard time accepting KG...especially now?
