An early list of some predicted future Gophers

This is just a list of some uncommitted players that I feel the Gophers will have on their roster by signing day next year.  No inside info.  This is just based on the reported interest level from Brewster's staff and, more importantly of course, the reported interest from these recruits garnered from interviews and statements.  These are players that have a strong likelihood of signing with the Golden Gophers.  Any reliable contributions are welcome!

PLAYERS THAT ARE LIKELY TO COMMIT TO THE GOPHERS:

RB - Eric Stephens (TX) (5.8 **** #5 APB,  #196 overall - Rivals)  (ESPN top 150 Watch List player)

WR - Hayo Carpenter (CA) Junior College (***** Scout)

    OG - Steve Green (PA) (5.6 *** #41 OG - Rivals) (*** #37 OG - Scout) (ESPN grade 76)

    WDE - Matt Garin (MN) (5.5 *** #40 WDE - Rivals) (ESPN grade 40)

    SDE/SLB/ILB - Kerry Hyder (TX) (5.5 *** #49 SDE - Rivals) (*** #17 SLB - Scout) (ESPN top 150 Watch List player)

    SLB/ILB - TyQuan Hammock (IN) (5.7 *** #27 ILB - Rivals) (*** #27 SLB - Scout) (ESPN grade 75)

CB - Taj Johnson (CA) (ESPN grade 40)

    KEEP AN EYE ON:

WR - Kris Lott (TX) (ESPN grade 73)

    WR - Fritz Rock (MN) (5.5 *** #90 ATH - Rivals) (*** #117 WR - Scout) (ESPN grade 77)

WR(TE?) - Sam Haskins (VA) (ESPN grade 74)

TE - Taylor Nelson (MN) (ESPN grade 63)

DE - Roy Philon (KY) (ESPN grade 40)

CB - Landrian Gordon (KS) Junior College

    CB - Taikwon Paige (GA)

    CB/RB - Turmour Battle (CO)

    COMMITMENTS:

    OT - Josh Campion (MN) (5.7 *** #33 OT - Rivals) (*** #47 OT - Scout) (ESPN top 150 Watch List player)

QB - Moses Alipate (MN) (5.7 *** #19 QB - Rivals) (**** #19 QB, #102 overall - Scout) (ESPN All American, top 150 Watch List player)

    OT/C - Ed Olson (MN) (5.5 *** #76 OT - Rivals) (*** #50 OT - Scout) (ESPN grade 73)

WR - Victor "Spiderman" Keise (FL) (5.5 *** #91 WR - Rivals) (ESPN grade 74)

RB - Hasan Lipscomb (TX) (5.8 ****#19 RB,  #224 overall - Rivals) (*** #53 RB - Scout) (ESPN top 150 Watch List player)

I think your a little optimistic. The Gophers would have to have one hell of a season (rose bowl) to pull down that kind of a class. Plus your rating system is a little messed up, I doubt half the guys you rated at 4 stars will be that high but we'll see how the goph's and these kids do next fall.

    Go Trojans!

They got a top 20 class coming off a 1-11 season?

It's just my opinion, but I'm right!

Re: An early list of some predicted future Gophers

Victor (Spiderman) Keise commited. (Check out his youtube video!)  Got that one right!  Yeah, I'm probably over-optimistic with some of the final Rival's rankings.  Keise will be more like 5.6 since he jumped on our offer so early, for example.  The first out-state commit!

I'm really concerned that Bryce McNeal will choose Michigan over the Goph's.  He's the one I'm hoping we get the most but he's also the one I'm least confident about.

btw, aren't you aware what kind of class the Gophers had comming off a 1-11 season?  Most of the players I listed aren't even the top ones they are after, and they will land some of them also.  The players on this list are just the ones I feel really confident that they will get.

You were right, daunte, it looks like the Gophers are out of the picture for Carter.  I don't know if he cooled on the U of M or if the Gophers cooled on him.  He hasn't commited anywhere yet but don't look for him to be wearing maroon and gold after all.

On the bright side I'm adding Kerry Hyder (DE/LB) (TX) to my list.  Until Carter commits somewhere I'm still 1 for 1...:D

What!!!  Say it's not true, crowley!

I've justed added two more names of guys that I feel confident that will end up being Gophers - CB Sean Martin (CA) and RB Eric Stephens (TX).  The Gopher staff is casting an increasingly wider net for running backs.  We don't have as many scholarships this year.  Expect Daquan Hargrett to commit sooner rather than later.  He's my pick for the next out-state commit.

Edit - I don't expect them to recruit more than 3 running backs so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.  Guyton seems like the worst fit for this offense.  He's supposedly more of a straight-ahead runner.  The other guys are more scat-back kind of players.

Its true. Fritz Rock no longer has a MN offer.

Seriously?  It looks like he wants to stay in the south to me.  Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Florida seem to be his favorites.  He looks likely to end up with the Aggies, I'd say.  I hope you're right, though!

He recently named Minnesota as his favorite, so it looks like he may not having a problem coming up north.

Re: An early list of some predicted future Gophers

He's not totally out of the mix.  On Scout and Rivals they still have him listing Minnesota as one of the schools he's interested in.  ESPN, however, had Minnesota as one of the schools he was interested in a couple weeks ago.  The U of M is no longer listed though.  I don't see that as a good sign.  He hasn't mentioned the U as he did 2 months ago when he talked of his interest because of his cuz and there has been competition from some seriously established schools with a strong and successful recruiting history.  We'll see.  You can't ever count the Brew Crew out in recruiting battles.  I'm only listing players that I feel we have a really good chance of landing.

How about the kid from Eastview?  Matt Garin 6-4 240 pound DE.  He has 8 D1 offers including some Pac10 offers, haven't heard much about him, but I would guess he is one of the top 10 players in the state which seems to be loaded this year compared to previous ones.

I wouldn't go too much by what ESPN lists for interested schools, they're not in contact with players as frequently as the other services. As recently as 2 weeks or so ago Carter said his top 3 were Miami, Florida, and Minnesota.

He's an interesting one.  He wasn't getting interest from any D1 schools until his family sent out video of him from some of his games.  Like you mentioned, the schools out west have been giving him offers but, as far as I know, no Bin 10 offers including Minnesota.  The Gophers have to be very selective this year due to fewer scholarships available and the defensive line doesn't look like a high priority that they are recruiting for.  They seem to be going hard after cornerbacks, running backs and offensive linemen.  I'm not quite sure how many scholarships they have to give but I think I read it was only 19.  That means they only have 15 more to give, if that's accurate.  We'll have to wait and see on Garin.

Minnesota might have more D1 caliber of high school players this year but they aren't top end quality except for 3 or 4 of them.  Some solid players though.  Pulling Fritz Rock's scholarship off the table suggests that the staff feels very confident that they will be bringing in even more top end talent this year.  It's exciting!  It's like they are being very choosy, like they can afford to be,  which is a huge departure from the past.

You're right.  All of the recruiting websites vary, often greatly.  I'm not an insider or an expert.  I'm just relaying a sort of impression formed from a consensus of available information.  I decided to morph this thread away from a "personal prediction" angle into more of one that is a progress report of sorts.  That's why imput from people such as yourself, silencio, can provide a public service to all of us Gopher rubes.  I also don't want to throw out just any names of guys that the Gophers are recruiting.  I want to just provide an updated list of names that the Gophers have a higher than normal chance of signing.

Carter saying that Minnesota is in his top 3 is encouraging!  I have to shy away from putting him on the list until I get the impression he's leaning towards us.  Do you have anything that might convince me to add his name to the list?  I'll have to watch this closely.  Go get him, Brew!

silencio, or anyone else, if you have any more leads, scoops and hot steam I'll be happy to add some names to our list.  Only names of players that have a stronger than normal chance of committing to the U.

I hope we can get a guy like Limpscomb, Brewster has really done well down in Texas, especially that Houston area.  As for Wrs who do you guys see us going after hard other then McNeal?  I really like the Cameron Gordon kid from Michigan, he looks like a big physical guy.  I don't know how hard Michigan is going after Gordon because I think they just offered a duo of wrs from south carolina and aren't they going after McNeal pretty hard?

Lipscomb is supposedly going to announce his commitment in the very near future.  Apparently Minnesota is his choice right now.  Cross your fingers!  If he does commit then all we'd need is one more good one and we could stop recruiting running backs and concentrate on another area of need.

Other than McNeal, I don't know who would be the best or mostly likely fit for reciever.  I don't know anything about Gordon.  McNeal was supposedly very impressed by Michigan but I'm still  optimistic that he's still going to wait for the Army All-American game and commit to Minnesota right there on TV like Gray did.  He stated that's what he'd like to do a few weeks back.  I sure hope so!   McNeal is described as having good hands and is exceptionally quick.  Quick to accelerate and changes direction on a dime.  Keise is a tall, lanky guy with good leaping ability who has exceptionally good hands and is absolutely fearless catching the ball and refuses to go down.  Shows a ton of heart.  I'd like to see the Gophers land a guy that can stretch the field with blazing top end speed - a long bomb kind of guy.

Keise sure looked in his videos, great ability to adjust to some poorly thrown deep balls and then go up and haul em down.
