RANDOM THOUGHTS AFTER TAKING A COUPLE DAYS OFF...

--Ocean's 13 is a lot of fun, far easier to follow than the exceedingly convoluted '12', which was too precious for its own good.

--Just call me Nostrabumpus. As predicted on last Friday's Bumper-to-Bumper Show, Goof (On the Roof) spotted story of the Florida man killed by a lightning bolt which came out of clear skies, and is milking it for its full Fear Factor potential. Check the Paul Page from Tuesday: "This is why I keep ranting about the 30-30 rule, waiting at least 30 minutes after the last thunderclap before heading back outside to play."

This is why I keep ranting about my own 30-90 rule: Take whatever weather-related threat Goof offers, and assume he has tripled its significance, all under the convenient guise of erring on the side of caution.

--Congratulations to Glen Taylor, who by scheduling his honeymoon the week of what could be the most significant draft in recent Wolves' history, has no doubt convinced Wolves fans that he has intensified his commitment to securing a better future for the franchise. What? A billionaire didn't want to pay the penalty to change his flight at the last minute?

--Is there a Ricky Davis deal that the Wolves could do today? One source says yes, though the Garnett melodrama could affect the Wolves' interest.  Another league source says there is no way Garnett would walk from that $23 million season, which is this person's way of saying Danny Ainge should have been willing to call KG's bluff.

--Thank goodness Wednesday hero Jeff (Swing and Bloop) Cirillo has already pulled his Terrell Brandon. By telling the world that he is ready to head to the rocking chair, there is now still time to put together a Cirillo Farewell Tour for the last three months of the season. It should be emotional.

The Douglas/Lightning Bolt bit was funny.

The anticipation over this Garnett thing is killing me.  Hopefully, by the time most people come across this comment, KG will already have been traded and we'll know the details.  But after AI and years of dumb moves, I can't help but feel like either nothing is going to get done (again), or the Wolves will dump KG in a horrible move that leaves no hope for the future.

Of all the possiblities thrown out there, the only ones that would really help us are ones that give us either another Top 10 draft pick, Stoudamire (though I'm not sure he can stay healthy, or be as effective without a stud PG), or perhaps a guy like Jefferson + a draft pick/other players.  If this team loses Garnett, but goes into the draft with two Top 10 picks, and Randy Foye (who may or may not be a star, but at least looks like he can be a starter in this league), then that should be more than enough to build a respectable future for this franchise.  But, like I said, for some reason, I can't get over the feeling that nothing will happen, even though every sign points towards KG being traded today or tomorrow.

On Wolves / KG:

I renew my proclamation of a week ago that now that it is all but official that KG is gone, we can properly hail him as the most overrated Minnesota sports star of all-time.  Congrats, KG.

And for those of you who are rooting for him to win a title with another team, get a life.  KG filed Minnesota's most exuberant tax return for 9 seasons and we ended up with 7 playoff one-and-done's and a number one seed that failed to make it to the Finals (ala '98 Vikes).  Somehow I'm not shedding emotional tears in KG's quest for the ring.

On the Twins:

Lost in that bloop game-winning single that should've been an out was a clutch pinch hit by my owner, Mr. Ford.  And to think, Gardy went with L-Rod the night before...

On the Goof:

You could argue that weather coverage is nearly as insignificant as sports coverage for the most part, yet sports do not get that first block on the news nearly as often.  I want a Goof v. Barreiro radio showdown once and for all.  Someone ought to be able to set that up!

KG will be traded and will promptly become the cold blooded, high pressure shooter he's always told us he is--he will sink Dirk, Timmy Duncan, and leap Kobe  in a single bound.  We will rue the day we shipped him off for one first round pick, two players named Sheila, and a bucket of used golf balls.  Being rubes we will boo him upon his triumphant return to the Twin Cities.  He will shrug off the catcalls and non-chalantly score 42 points, grab 22 rebounds, and guest host for the Goof on the Roof and will accurately predict 40 days and 40 nights of rain, rain, rain...in January.  We will be lost without him...and his forty win seasons, 8 billion dollar contract, and the rubber bands on his wrists.

Dan take it easy on the goof.  He is under tremendous pressure having to deal with the severe weather and the global warming overtaking Minnesota.  He is so concerned about global warming that he traded in his SUV for a Hybrid (which he parks at his huge home on Bearpath).

Taylor just kills me.  He is more committed than ever and just last week Peterson was telling you that Taylor was involved in everything.  Well I guess everything doesn't include trading the number one figure in franchise history, plus preparing for a high draft pick, plus unloading the variety of stiffs on the roster.  I'm still in favor of moving Garnett, but know that McHale is in charge scares the heck out of me.

It sure if fun to hear the hourly updates of Garnett trade rumors.  Makes for some really dull talk radio.

What does Glen Taylor care about this franchise? As long as he is making his money, that's all that matters and Wolves fans are suckers for it. He never was into winning. If he was, he would hire a competent front office and coach. The fact he keeps his friends and family to run an office is all you need to know about him so him having his honeymoon on draft week is par on the course. Him taking his moneymoon would have been okay if he had a front office that knew what they are doing, but that's not the case especially when you got Stack and McHale differing in draft picks and what to get in return for KG. The Wolves do a Job 1 when it comes to stupidity. They are just great for bloopers. In a way, it's no longer a trainwreck. It's great comedy.

For the umpteenth time, KG ain't going anywhere. I don't see a deal happening. He will stay here and leave as a free agent after next season. As for Ricky, he will likely stay. It would be pointless to pick up a horrible contract in return.

I'd like to comment on your usual ranting (which is all you do, which takes no talent whatsoever) Barriero. You say the Twins can't use injuroes as an 'excuse' well when you need to move your right fielder to 1st ecause your starter is out and the backup has bad knees and also so desperate you are considering using your all star catcher there who has not played there since a few games in Class A. Also your 2nd baseman gets spiked and is probably playing hurt. Twins are thin on the bench all around. I don't think it is an 'excuse' that Gardy is wondering how he is going to put a viable lineup out on the field.

Nora: There is nothing worse than a team patronizing its injuries especially when you are losing utility players, who are really not that good, to injuries. Dan mentioned that there were teams that lost out impact players, but they never complained about it.

There is nothing worse then claiming that no other team is complaining about injuries. If what the Twins are doing is complaining then I certainly don't buy that. Does Barriero sit and sift through every article to prove that no other team has 'complained'? Didn't know Morneau was a utility player. Twins also had Mauer out a month. Not saying other teams don't have injuries but to claim they have not said anything about how hard it is to play with injuries is very hard to believe.

FYI, Doctor, let's not forget that Goof has made so much money off of inventing radars and scaring people that he also owns a nice chunk of Lake Minnetonka property in the little hamlet known as Tonka Bay. I think it was none other than C.J. who reported that nugget, and if I recall correctly, he plopped down $2.6 million for a house he isn't occupying. Perhaps it serves as his lake cabin.

Somebody pay me to shout from the rooftops, please!

And you continue day in and day out to write about the NBA and the Wolves as if someone cares.  Keep carrying the torch for your sport.  I would say I admire your persistence, but I really don't.  Give up.  WE DON'T CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Until the NBA gives up the hip-hop culture and thugerry, we won't care.  But I guess you do.

Although I don't personally care for the hip-hop culture and "thuggery," I really seriously doubt that it turns a single person off from the NBA product.  Do modern NBA fans, white or black, really yearn for the days of George Mikan in volleyball shorts and no 3-point lines?  In any event, I don't see how Kevin Garnett has anything to do with the hip hop culture to begin with...except for demanding that we keep T-Hud around--now THAT was inexcusable.

When tonight comes and goes and nothing happens (which is looking more and more like the case), it's going to be an akward time for Timberpuppies fans.  On the one hand, this is just another example of trade that needed to be made, should have been made, and seemed like it was GOING to be made...not happening.  But if you sort through all the internet-generated rumors and hype, the reality is that I think McHale & Co. actually are trying to make a deal this time, but when you're dealing with $20 million contracts, 3-way deals, and dysfunctional franchises like the Wolves, Celtics, and Hawks, a LOT of things can go wrong.

It will be a long boring year if this doesn't go down, but let's keep in mind that this is the culmination of MANY blunders, all of which made this one trade that much harder.  The whole reason we're so desperate to pick up draft picks is that we're not going to have that many of them in the years to come.  Usually, when you trade a 30-year old guy for younger guys like Stoudamire and Barbosa, it's the team trading the older guy that throws in the draft pick!  We don't have that luxury, obviously, so we were caught up in a bunch of unreasonable demands and overhyped pipe dream scenarios.  Unless a miracle happens tonight, I don't see the Wolves being relevant again for some time.

I posted this on June 8th upon the return of Joe Mauer to the line up, and the big question was should the Twins move Mauer from catcher:

MNSportsFanatic said:
“Mike Redmond can handle the chore for two more years and then maybe Jose Morales can develop into an everyday catcher or this draft pick that the Twins drafted yesterday. Mike has done a very good job playing everyday. He has done more than the Twins asked him to do.”

The most games Redmond has played in 1 season:   89 (MN- There are 162 games in a season)

In 9 seasons at the major league level Mike Redmond has played more than 80 games in 1 season: 4 times (Once again MN- are 162 games in a season)

Between 2003 & 2006 Mike Redmond has played 232 games of 810 games: That 29% of possible games, less than 1/3 of a season.

In 2005 Mauer played: 131 games (MN if you didn’t catch it the first two times - There are 162 games in a season)

In 2006 Mauer played: 140 games (MN- One, Six, Two)

Of 324 games Mauer played a total of 271 Games (That’s 84% of games played, well more than 2/3 of a season)

You want to put a player who has never played more than 89 games in a season, and is 36 years old at catcher everyday for two more years??

Mauers 2004 injury, if I remember correctly, was caused when he slid from the turf to the warning track at Metrodome.

Now because he has gone on the DL for 30 days you want to put him at 3rd base for Redmond???  A guy that has played less than half of the possible games he could have in his career. But now that he’s 36 and a 9 year veteran he’s ready to play everyday.

On May 19th

So what are you saying MN???
That we shouldn’t trust Terry Ryan’s judgments when they are slumping but we should trust him to make the right decision when drafting a replacement for Mauer??

I’m a little confused here?? Do you know anything about baseball???

Or

Have you been watching too much of the Brewers to know whats going on with the Twins that you can’t make a logical comment???

Every take MNSports attempts to make just blows up in his (or her) face.  Every take is so far from reality it isn't even funny.

Anyhoo I am just pleased as can be that the draft is over and I don't have to hear anymore outlandish scenarios regarding where KG is going to go, and what we should do with this or that.  Couldn't care less...
Obviously we know Barreiro spends many a night obsessing about it.
